Mountain bike report Thursday 16th
of May
12
KDCS members by the chocolate factory in Orton on a lovely sunny day We set off
to the West along a narrow walled lane.
Across
a few fields and then down a road for about a kilometre before heading north
across open moorland, climbing to Crosby Ravensworth Fell with stunning views
of the Pennines and Lake District. Fortunately we were heading north as the Sun
was quite bright. Looking back it was great to see a line of riders heading
across the open moorland on sheep grazed grass. At one point Phil Morgan
tried to take a picture of us all abreast.
Short
stretch of road saw us going right down a very nice single track through some
woodland before getting lost in the field, and having to retrace our steps back
up to the gate. More farmland with gates to negotiate brought us to Crosby
Ravensworth
A
short climb on the road found us a bench where we settled for a half hour break
to sunbathe and enjoy lunch with a view.
Moving
on across more open grassy Moorland and climbing up towards Orton Scar before
turning left down through the rocky single track through the limestone nature
reserve.
A
short road section and off uphill again, farm track, Grassy fields and
limestone moorland rewarded us with another fine view of the Howgills.
A
super descent to yet another farm track to Sunbiggin Farm
Down
hill on road to the bridleway with 10 gates, a stone circle and one final
disused road. Finally sneaky rock strewn track and more walled lanes deposed us
at Orton Scar Cafe which will win this years cafe award?
35km
with 30km off road and all back for 15.08, Super.
